A New School, A New Beginning

Jiwoo started her first day at a new school. Surrounded by unfamiliar faces, she felt nervous about making friends. Everyone else seemed to know each other already, and Jiwoo didn’t know how to join in.

During lunch, she sat alone and made a promise to herself.
“I don’t need to force myself to approach others. I’ll just focus on my work and do my best. Friends will come naturally.”

새로운 학교, 낯선 환경

지우는 새 학기 첫날, 새로운 학교로 전학을 갔습니다. 낯선 얼굴들 사이에서 어떻게 친구를 사귀어야 할지 걱정이 앞섰습니다. 다른 아이들은 이미 서로 친해 보였고, 지우는 말 한마디 건네기가 어려웠습니다.

점심시간이 되자 지우는 혼자 식사를 하며 스스로에게 다짐했습니다.
“일부러 다가가지 않아도 괜찮아. 나는 내 할 일을 열심히 하면 돼. 그러다 보면 자연스럽게 친구가 생길 거야.”

Focusing on Her Work

Jiwoo decided to focus on her studies and classwork every day. She raised her hand eagerly during lessons and completed every assignment with care. In math class, Jiwoo especially enjoyed solving challenging problems and always participated actively.

One day after math class, Minji, a classmate, came up to her.
“Jiwoo, you’re really good at solving those problems! Could you teach me sometime?”
Jiwoo smiled brightly and replied,
“Of course!”

From that day on, Jiwoo and Minji often stayed after school to work on math problems together.

수업에 집중하기

지우는 매일 자신의 자리에서 과제와 수업에 집중하기로 했습니다. 수업 시간마다 선생님이 질문하면 적극적으로 손을 들고 대답했고, 그룹 활동에서도 책임감 있게 맡은 일을 해냈습니다. 수학 시간이 특히 즐거웠던 지우는 매번 어려운 문제를 풀 때마다 열심히 손을 들었습니다.

어느 날, 수학 수업이 끝난 뒤, 같은 반의 민지가 다가왔습니다.
“지우야, 아까 그 문제 너 정말 잘 풀더라! 다음에 나도 같이 알려줄 수 있어?”
지우는 밝게 웃으며 대답했습니다.
“물론이지!”

그날 이후 민지와 지우는 수업 후 자주 모여 함께 문제를 풀었습니다.

Shared Interests Bring Friends Together

One day during P.E. class, the students played soccer. Jiwoo wasn’t confident in her soccer skills, but she tried her best and ran as hard as she could for her team. After class, a boy named Taeho approached her.
“You were really trying out there! Want to practice with us next time?”
Taeho loved soccer, and he quickly became another friend Jiwoo could rely on.

관심사가 친구를 연결하다

하루는 체육 시간에 축구를 하게 되었습니다. 지우는 축구에 자신이 없었지만, 열심히 뛰고 팀을 위해 최선을 다했습니다. 그 모습을 본 한 남자아이가 다가왔습니다.
“너 축구 열심히 하더라! 다음에 우리랑 같이 연습할래?”
그 아이의 이름은 태호였고, 그는 축구를 좋아하는 친구였습니다.

Friends Come Naturally

As time went on, Jiwoo found herself making more and more friends, including Minji and Taeho. By focusing on her studies, being herself, and putting effort into her tasks, friends naturally gravitated toward her. Jiwoo realized,
“I don’t need to force myself to make friends. If I focus on doing my best, friends will come to me.”

친구가 자연스럽게 다가오다

시간이 지나면서 지우는 민지와 태호 외에도 자연스럽게 많은 친구들을 사귀게 되었습니다. 과제를 열심히 하고, 수업에서 최선을 다하며, 자신이 좋아하는 일에 집중한 덕분이었습니다. 지우는 깨달았습니다.
“굳이 억지로 다가가지 않아도, 내가 내 할 일을 열심히 하면 친구들이 자연스럽게 다가오는구나.”

The Lesson

Now, Jiwoo is never worried about new environments. She learned that the best way to make friends is to focus on being herself and doing her best. Friendship isn’t something you have to force—it’s something that happens naturally when you shine in your own way.

지우는 이제 새로운 환경에서도 걱정하지 않습니다. 친구를 사귀는 가장 좋은 방법은 자기 자신에게 집중하고, 자신의 역할에 최선을 다하는 것임을 알았기 때문입니다. 친구란, 억지로 만드는 것이 아니라 자연스럽게 다가오는 존재라는 것을 배운 것이죠.
